The heather heathlands of West Jutland
Lyng is Danish for heather. Our signature honey begins in this open, windswept landscape.
Heather thrives on open heathland, rooted in sandy, nutrient-poor soil. When it flowers, broad stretches of the landscape turn purple, providing an important late-summer source of nectar for the bees.
DANSK LYNG heather honey comes from the coast of West Jutland. During the bloom, the beekeepers we work with move their hives among more than thirty heathland sites and nature reserves, from north to south. Once the flowering season is over, the hives move on.
Heathland does not remain open and purple without care. As heather ages, grasses, shrubs and other vegetation gradually take its place. Local conservation work renews the landscape in cycles, making space for young heather to grow.
The honey's deep colour, warm spice and velvety texture begin here—in the heather, the coastal climate and the rhythm of the season.
